I like to bake because it's something so simple that can brighten up someone's day. Even if it's a new recipe or another chance at making sad macarons, I want to try it all. One of the worst things I think people can do is just take the box brownies or tube cookies because they think baking from scratch is too hard. Be daring and give it a try! I know some great one-bowl recipes that would prove them wrong.
My first memorable baking experience was when I was about 6. Mom and Dad always host Thanksgiving and Mom thought it'd be good for me to make the pies (don't worry, she was standing close by to supervise). Following the directions to the "T", I turned on the blender and then put it into the gooey pumpkin mess. Needless to say Mom wasn't standing close enough and Dad had to help wash it off the cabinets. Now I bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies and tarts for friends and family in addition to taking the occasional request/order.
With the support of friends and family, I'd like to become a better baker and one day do something with it. Maybe not as big as opening a bakery, but for sure expanding my skill set and spreading the word about baking from scratch.
